.
Today’s question comes from Aaron in Ireland who asks, “How do I remain consistent in poker?”

Good news. It doesn’t matter whether you’re aspiring to play poker like Ivey, golf like Tiger or paint like Picasso, the secrets to staying on top transcend every industry.

I put together the key list of essentials, the four things that you can start doing today to take your game to the next level.

Which piece of advice was your favorite? How do you stay on your game?

    Hi Alec,

My passion my entire life has been poker. I have always been a slightly profitable player, but have never had time to fully commit myself to the game. After college, I have been working for 2 years saving most of the income I have earned. I now am burned out of my job, and want to dive deep into poker. I play on Bovada atleast once a week and make decent money for how long I play (i.e about 300-400 a week) I have enough savings to last me 1.5 years and I want to take the leap of quitting my job and taking poker on full time. What would your advice on me on doing this? Should I continue slaving at a job I dislike, or should I attempt to pursue my dream of being a professional poker player? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

      Hey Mark,

Great question. I’m really proud of you for saving up 1.5 years of cushion. That gives you HUGE wiggle room, relieves stress and makes the process much, much better.

I’ll try to address this specifically in it’s own video as I know the subject matter is slightly different, but for now I would recommend to check out my video:
“Am I Ready to Move and Play Poker Full Time” which can be found here:

Thanks for the quick reply and video, Alec! A lot of good stuff in it that I really have been thinking about for the last several months. I would love to chat with you one on one via email or skype to further discuss my opportunity costs, why I want to make the leap, what my goals are, and if my expectations are actually realistic. My intentions are to make the switch at the end of the year and go for it hard in 2015. If you would want to chat via email, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks,

        Mark

          Hi Mark,

I anticipated that! … and did just shoot you a private email. If you received it go ahead and respond there at your convenience.

          Looking forward to speaking.

    Hi Alec,

Thank you for all these videos! I have been keeping up with all of them and I really appreciate how you are willing to give your time to answer questions people have. I just wanted to ask a question about the state of poker, and how YOU see poker in the future.

Do you think that it will still be possible for someone to become a professional poker player within the next 5-10 years? (like a poker lifestyle similar to yours) and Do you think there is money still left to be made in poker?

    Thanks,

    Will

      Hey Will,

Thanks for the kind words, and great question. There’s so much skepticism and confusion about the future of poker, and I’d like to share my thoughts and experience on it. I’ll throw it together in a video and have it out in the coming weeks… stay tuned!

      Alec
